Campaign and Research Associate
Coalition for Clean Air (CCA) is the only statewide nonprofit organization advocating exclusively for clean air in California. With a dozen staff members in offices in Los Angeles, Sacramento and Fresno, we work to restore California’s air quality through advocacy, outreach and education.
Position Summary
As the San Joaquin Valley representative, the Campaign and Research Associate advocates statewide and regional clean air policies in the region. The Associate is currently CCA’s sole employee in the San Joaquin Valley but works as part of the statewide team and reports to the Policy Director. General job responsibilities are outlined below, though other duties may be required as needed.
Responsibilities
- Carries out organizing, media and public education work on regional and statewide clean air campaigns in the San Joaquin Valley
- Performs research and provides technical expertise as needed, including compiling data, developing fact sheets, writing reports/briefing papers and drafting comment letters
- Assists in monitoring select regulatory agencies, particularly the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District
- Facilitates community stakeholder participation in policymaking activities
- Coordinates and participates in meetings with elected and appointed officials to advocate policy change
- Serves as CCA’s media spokesperson in the San Joaquin Valley
- Arranges forums and trainings to increase awareness of CCA and environmental policies
- Conducts face-to-face meetings and collaborates with a range of stakeholders, including community members and business allies
- With support from CCA’s other offices, manages CCA Fresno office, including working with vendors and landlord and ordering supplies
- Participates in organizational planning and implementation to expand CCA’s programmatic and fundraising capabilities
- Travels within the region and somewhat throughout the state when required
Skills and knowledge
- Minimum 2 years experience working within nonprofit or government sector
- Environmental or air quality-related technical, scientific/engineering, or related expertise/education preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree a plus; focus on environmental science or related field preferred
- Advocacy or community organizing skills
- Strong communication skills
- Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively with diverse communities
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
- Ability to work independently, with minimal daily supervision, as well as part of a team
